Vocational School Center for Educational Professions, House for Children, Cultural Center and Triple Sports Hall, Munich

Located on a rather small plot of land on Ruppertstraße in Munich, the vocational school center accommodates a vocational school for childcare, a specialized academy for social pedagogy, a house for children, the cultural center for the district LUISE, a triple sports hall and underground parking facilities for residents.

The new construction continues the comb-shaped alignment of the neighboring district administration office and is divided into five five-story structures with several courtyards. To the west, the structure is complemented by a semi-subterranean triple sports hall.

The two school areas are linked in the upper floors via a main access route and a staircase in the center of the building, with double-loaded access in a “back-to-back double-comb shape”. The necessity to accommodate additional uses led to a change in the floor plan organization on the ground floor. The center of the building contains a central entrance area for the vocational schools with auditorium, presentation rooms, student library and cafeteria. A cultural center for the city district and an entrance to the sports hall was created in the west and a two-story house for children in the east.

The design focused on organizing a complex usage structure in a complex inner-city environment on the one hand, while on the other hand, the task was to design suitable spaces for different users and create a distinctive environment for learning and social interaction.

While the design of the building complex with its curtain wall clinker facade makes reference to the old exposed-brick buildings on the neighboring slaughterhouse grounds, it differs in the choice of a sand-colored brick.
