Built during the first phase of construction following a competition for development of an area called the "Flötzinger Wiese" held in 1993, the school complex offering twelve classrooms and specialised teaching rooms for 300 children also includes a sports hall, an indoor swimming pool, an after school care center with four group rooms and a janitor apartment.

The school and after school care center entrances are linked to the neighbouring heterogeneous residential area by an urbanised forecourt and a bridge. Like a row of adjacent "wooden boxes", the school classrooms and the after school care center group rooms are located on the eastern edge of the meadowland, alongside a newly cleared brook, beneath light single-pitch roofs held up by inclined steel supports. The location at the edge of the plot was purposely selected to leave space for the creation of a generous park area.

The access side towards the east incorporating a lot of glass elements, is bright and spacious, and connected to the school playground and park outside through an indoor break area.

Younger students are accommodated in the single-storey side wings bordering the brook lined with water plants and wild herbs, and creating space for three garden yards. The two-storey "wooden boxes" oriented towards the park contain classrooms for older students as well as specialised teaching rooms.

The design of the school responds to its environment close to nature. Simple materials, such as fair-faced concrete, larch and glass, are employed, and friendly colours are used for floors, walls and ceilings. There are no walls to enclose the school grounds: the whole park is the schoolyard. The buildings are surrounded by a narrow wooden platform – an ideal place to sit on a sunny day, with the wooden façade of the school as a backrest.
