Construction of the New Hans and Sophie Scholl Secondary Schools
Today’s ceremonial groundbreaking marks the start of construction of the new Hans and Sophie Scholl Secondary Schools in Weiden. This major project is one of the city’s most significant investments in its educational infrastructure and sends a strong signal for the future.
“We are creating a place where young people can learn, grow, and shape their future,” emphasized Mayor Benjamin Zeitler.
Construction will begin with the new Sophie Scholl Secondary School, which is scheduled to open for the 2027/2028 school year. The entire school campus is expected to be completed by the end of 2029. Modern classrooms and specialized teaching facilities, a high-performance digital infrastructure, and flexible learning spaces will provide future-ready conditions for students and teachers.
Project partner VINCI Facilities Solutions is supporting the implementation of the project. Managing Director Christian Biegert thanked the City of Weiden for its trust and emphasized the close partnership throughout the project.
For Mayor Benjamin Zeitler, today’s groundbreaking marks the beginning of a new chapter for education in Weiden. He expressed his gratitude to everyone from politics, the city administration, the schools, the planning teams, and the business community who helped make the project possible.
The new school complex is based on a City Council resolution adopted in 2021. Following a Europe-wide tendering process, VINCI Facilities Solutions was awarded the contract at the end of 2025. The total investment amounts to approximately €75 million and is supported by funding from the Free State of Bavaria.
