Contract Awarded for PPP Project – New Construction of Hans and Sophie Scholl Secondary Schools in Weiden

...we are delighted to have been awarded the contract for the “New Hans and Sophie Scholl Secondary Schools in Weiden” project, which we were able to co-develop with VINCI Facilities as part of a PPP process.

New construction project unanimously approved by the City Council at its Christmas meeting on 15 December 2025.
"This is the most wonderful Christmas gift and one of the most important decisions for the school landscape in Weiden, and also for me as Lord Mayor," said Lord Mayor Meyer following the unanimous decision to award the public-private partnership project for the construction of the new secondary schools to the bidder offering the most economically advantageous proposal. The company VINCI Facilities Solutions GmbH from Mannheim will not only be responsible for the planning and construction, but will also take over the operation of the secondary schools and their sports facilities for 25 years.
In the Europe-wide tendering, negotiation and award procedure, the bids were evaluated in particular with regard to architecture, urban planning, functionality and economic efficiency.
"The new building complex presents itself as architecturally and urbanistically very high-quality and appealing, and can be realised without temporary container buildings thanks to the skilful arrangement of the buildings," explains Head of the Building Department Alkmar Zenger. "A highly space-efficient building with a low CO? footprint will be created, in which modern teaching and learning will be possible in the future."
Preparatory measures on the site are scheduled to begin as early as February 2026, with construction work planned to officially commence in March 2026. Completion of the major project is scheduled for the end of 2029.
